Moroba Nkawe is a Producer and film risk management specialist with over 20 year’s experience in the film and television industry. Moroba has worked as a Production Executive in the film Completion Guarantee business for over 5 years. She has also Produced and Line Producer feature films, television series, commercials and music videos. She has filmed across the African continent and worked with all major funding institutions in South Africa.  

Moroba has produced and co-produced films that have travelled to major film festivals, including “The Tribe” by Charlie Vundla, 2015(Toronto International Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Chicago Film Festival), “Mandela’s Gun” by John Irvin, 2016 (Joburg International Film Festival 2016, Harlem International Film Festival 2018), “State of Violence” by Khalo Matabane, 2010 (Toronto International Film Festival, Pusan,  Berlinale, Dubai International Film Festival) amongst others.

Moroba founded Maru Film Services in 2019, a Johannesburg based company that provides risk solutions to the film and television industry, including film insurance, event liability cover and supervisory services. Prior to that she worked as Production Executive at Hollard Film Guarantors, a division of the Hollard Insurance Company Limited, conducting risk assessments, overseeing and supervising numerous local films and co-productions on behalf of investors and other funding institutions. 

Moroba joined Known Associates Entertainment in January 2023 as Supervising Producer, where she oversees all film and television productions produced by the company.  

Moroba has served on the advisory panel of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and has been invited as a guest lecturer on Film Production at WITS University. She sits on the boards of the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival and the SA Film Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of Cape Town.
